NATTER: AND THE WINNER IS.....

In a thrilling photo finish, VIEWED has won this year's Melbourne Cup, ahead of BAUER, only by a (short) nose. C'EST LA GUERRE ran third.

This victory gives legendary Australian trainer Bart Cummings his 12th Melbourne Cup win and the right to claim the AUD$5.5 million dollar prize.

VIEWED (with 40-1 odds), was ridden for dear life inside the final 200m (furlong) by 21-year-old jockey Blake Shinn and denied another Australian trainer, Luca Cumani ,his first Melbourne Cup success with BAUER (20-1) in the 3200m (two mile) handicap race.

Australian-owned five year-old C'EST LA GUERRE (20-1) was two lengths away third.

Cummings, who won his first Melbourne Cup with LIGHT FINGERS in 1965, has iconic status in Australian thoroughbred racing. This win gives him his 250th Group One win. The last Melbourne Cup win for Cummings, who turns 81 this month, was in 1999 with ROGAN JOSH.

It is reported that 100,000 people witnessed the race at Flemington with punters spending more than $20 million on Cup bets.

And did my horse win? Wouldn’t have a clue as I did not place a bet this year…..sigh!
